The reconditioned market has grown rapidly in recent years, driven by an ecological awareness and a quest for savings for consumers. At Dipli, we wanted to study this trend more closely by making a barometer of the prices of the reconditioned.
Our barometer has been developed from a precise algorithm taking into account, in real time, many data in order to deliver you ever more relevant information. Thanks to our internal price data observed on our sales and distribution channels, we can provide you with a monthly view of the market and its evolution.
December
The price decrease observed last month continues in December, and it's more pronounced 📉.
Unlike the previous year, this period is experiencing a decline in prices.
Two hypotheses are possible :
1️⃣ The arrival of new models at the end of the year leads to a decrease in demand for the previous ones, resulting in more affordable prices.
2️⃣ The holiday season stimulates the demand for new products, reducing interest in refurbished items and impacting prices.
This price drop is excellent news for buyers, allowing them to make significant savings by choosing refurbished products.
November
In November, prices are decreasing 📉
This can be attributed to three factors:
👉 Persistent inflation is impacting the budgets of the French, slowing down sales.
👉 Simultaneously, an increase in stocks naturally leads to a price decline.
👉 The iPhone 15 is selling better this year than its predecessor, resulting in a greater trade-in flow replenishing the stocks.
Traditionally, December is marked by a significant price increase. Will this downward trend in prices continue into December? 🤔
October
In October, we're seeing price stability! The main reason for this plateau is the balance between supply and demand. When supply and demand remain at relatively constant levels, prices tend to stay steady.
It's great news for your customers who can keep enjoying significant savings by choosing refurbished products. 🌱
In fact, refurbished items can be sold for up to 50% less than their brand-new counterparts.
This trend reflects the sustainability of the refurbished market. 👀
September
Refurbished prices stabilised during September ! 👀
👉 This can be explained by an increase in demand for refurbished products, particularly due to the back-to-school period or preparatory purchases for the festive season. This accumulated demand can stabilise prices.
Also, constant supply can avoid price fluctuations due to temporary shortages.
Finally, if several companies offer similar products at competitive prices, this can help keep prices stable. 👍
August
Prices rose in August! (4 points).
👉 This can be explained by the back-to-school period, which generates an increase in demand for certain refurbished products, such as laptops, tablets and smartphones, as many professionals are looking to equip themselves for the new year.
What's more, the limited availability of certain refurbished products can push up prices. If certain models or configurations are out of stock, sellers may adjust prices upwards to reflect accumulated demand.
Finally, fluctuations in the supply of electronic components and spare parts can also influence the price of refurbished products. If the supply of these components is limited, the costs of repairing and refurbishing refurbished products may rise, which will have an impact on selling prices.
Is this a short-lived back-to-school trend? What does the coming months have in store for us? 🤔
July
Prices fell sharply during the month of July !
Over the whole of 2023, the situation is more nuanced. Despite this sudden fall in 2023, the decline remains below that recorded in the same period since from January to July 2022, there was a decrease of 11% compared to 12% the previous year.📉
The correlation is striking, it is clearly a catch-up effect. It should be noted that the decline in the second half of the year is still slight, it was 6% in 2022.
What should we expect for August? 🤔
June
June was marked by price stabilization, offering professionals a unique opportunity to save money while making a sustainable choice. 🌱
The main reason lies in the balance between the supply of refurbished products and the demand of the partners. The sellers were able to effectively meet the needs of the market by offering a variety of quality products. This helped keep prices stable, avoiding significant fluctuations.
But also, thanks to the competitiveness of the market: the presence of many sellers and buyers encourages companies to adjust their prices in order to remain competitive. When competition is strong, companies have less room to increase their prices, which contributes to price stabilization.
If you are considering a purchase, this is the right time to seize these good deals.
Will we see an increase in prices in July? 🤔
Mai
May saw a slight increase in prices 📈
After a period of decline between January and April 2023, we saw an increase in prices during the month of May. However, these variations are part of the usual seasonal trend of the market, the high season resumes service !
In anticipation of next month, a significant recovery is expected. This is the right time to make your purchases and take advantage of our advantageous offers before prices increase imminently. 👀
June is fast approaching, what can we expect?
April
Did you know that prices of refurbished electronics tend to fall during the first part of the year? 📉
This can be explained by an increase in stocks and a decrease in demand. But that’s not all! Manufacturers can also launch new models or versions at the beginning of the year, which can make previous models obsolete and lead to a decline in their value in the second-hand market.
So what does this mean for the rest of the year? 🤔 It’s hard to say for sure, but keep an eye out for the offers we put online on Dipli.com, throughout the year, to find the best deals!
This is the time to source you in reconditioned products, while reducing your impact on the environment 🌿.
March
True to the seasonal decline, March saw a decrease in prices (2 points).
At this time, the offers of reconditioned products are numerous and the competition is intense which contributes to this decline of the first trimester.
There are also larger discounts to attract consumers at a time when inflation is sharply reducing purchasing power.
Overall, this is good news for resellers who can make great deals to their customers.
It’s time to buy !
January/ February: a declining start to the year.
At the beginning of the year, the reconditioned market experienced a seasonal variation in prices, with a decrease observed during the months of January and February. This trend is not new and occurs every year. These two months are generally characterized by a decrease in the prices of refurbished devices on our different distribution channels.
This price reduction is not uniform for all types of products. Indeed, some products such as high-end smartphones may experience a sharper price decline than other product categories. This price change can be explained by several factors, such as seasonal demand or available inventory levels.
The usual spring low begins to be felt at the beginning of February, with a significant drop in prices. This period can be favorable for consumers who wish to acquire a refurbished device at a lower cost.
